Objectives:

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Differentiate religion and spirituality and describe how each may influence clients’ identity, meaning-making, coping, and mental health.

  • Identify at least two ways clinicians’ own religious, spiritual, or nonreligious beliefs and experiences may influence the therapeutic relationship and clinical decision-making.

  • Apply a spiritual assessment framework to explore clients’ spiritual or religious identities, beliefs, practices, resources, concerns, and preferences for incorporating spirituality into treatment.

  • Identify core clinician competencies necessary for spiritually integrated psychotherapy, including relevant knowledge, spiritual/religious sensitivity, cultural humility, and awareness of professional limitations.

  • Differentiate potentially supportive spiritual beliefs and practices from spiritual experiences or coping patterns that may contribute to distress, avoidance, or spiritual bypassing.

  • Describe appropriate clinical responses to spiritual concerns and identify at least three ethical considerations associated with integrating spirituality into psychotherapy, including client autonomy, informed consent, therapist values, boundaries, and scope of competence.

Target Audience:

Classes are open to all licensed professional counselors, licensed social workers, psychologists, psychoanalysts, MFTs, Substance Abuse Counselors, and students who are curious and seek to expand their knowledge.

About Presenter: Jaclyn Tyson MSW, LCSW, is a licensed therapist, spiritual companion, and educator specializing in culturally responsive care, intergenerational trauma, and creative healing practices. She holds a Master of Social Work and integrates clinical training with intuitive and expressive approaches. Trained in Brainspotting, Internal Family Systems, energy work, and ancestral healing, she brings a strong interest in exploring how ancient and ancestral wisdom—particularly from Indigenous and traditional lineages—intersects with clinical practice. Her work includes ongoing inquiry into how these practices can be acknowledged and integrated ethically, with respect for their cultural origins. She creates restorative spaces for highly sensitive and marginalized individuals to reconnect with their inner wisdom and spiritual path.
